Deregulation is the process by which governments remove or reduce restrictions on a specific industry for the purpose of encouraging innovation and efficient market operations (i.e., the creation of state-of-the-art generation facilities and competitive pricing options). As a result of deregulation, private energy companies are allowed to enter the market and compete for your business.
